My Favorite Work: The City of Drizzles

This is a historical novel set in 1960s Lima, Peru, a period when various anti-dictatorship revolutions and political movements swept across Latin America, bringing significant societal changes and shifts in power dynamics. By limiting the reader’s perspective to two similar yet radically different characters—the destitute journalist Sebastian and Judas, the communist son of an oligarch—I aim to reveal the prevailing “might is right” belief of the time through instances drawn from the bottom of society. Moreover, this work attempts to explore dictatorship, betrayal, and false promises—how these dominant social values and beliefs rendered survival synonymous with compromise, and how truth, like the drizzle, seeps quietly into every corner yet never clears.

The novel was completed during Christmas of 2024. Afterward, I developed a strong interest in the postcolonial artworks of Latin America, which inspired me to delve deeper into this topic academically.
